Kent Weed brings a well-rounded and expansive array of expertise to A. Smith & Co. Productions. As President of the company, Weed serves as Executive Producer on all A. Smith & Co. shows as well as directing many of the company's projects, receiving a DGA nomination for I Survived a Japanese Game Show , the “Rose d'Or” award winner for best reality show in 2009. He also directed Crash Course for ABC, as well as The Swan , Skating with Celebrities , I Married a Stranger for Fox and Cookalong Live with Gordon Ramsay for FOX.
Weed made an early start in television production and by his early twenties headed a cable production company where he produced over 300 hours of programming each year. By his mid–twenties, Weed established himself as a premiere variety-format television director with his work on the highly rated The Smothers Brothers Thanksgiving Special and The World's Greatest Magic for NBC. He directed big events like Farm Aid for ABC and hours of magic specials including Lance Burton, Champions of Magic , Wildest Magic on Earth , and Houdini's Secrets Unlocked .
In 1990, Weed optimized his years of experience as a variety-format television director by expanding into other areas of programming and formats including the talk genre with Dennis Prager , the comedy genre with the syndicated sketch shows The Newz and Roundhouse for Nickelodeon, and the game genre directing over 225 episodes of To Tell the Truth . He was on the ground floor of the reality genre with shows link Pure Insanity , Made in the USA , and Fantasies of the Stars . In addition to directing, Weed also took on the producing responsibilities for many of the television shows he became involved with including The World Music Awards and Champions of Magic for ABC; comedy shows such as Haywire for FOX, and Comedy Classics for CBS; and reality projects such as Made in the USA for NBC. In the mid 90's Weed added to his already busy slate by creating his own production company, W.A.V.E Productions, which produced dance and music videos as well as over 22 infomercials. W.A.V.E also produced the internationally popular variety extravaganza “ Paris by Night ”.
